When you can't beat the odds, change the game.
Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn't think they'd survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they're right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and badly weakened, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz's cunning and test the team's fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city's dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of the Grisha world.
“Has anyone noticed this whole city is looking for us, mad at us, or wants to kill us?”
“So?” said Kaz.
“Well, usually it’s just half the city.”
That gif is honestly me this entire. freaking. book. I mean, that gif paired with about a thousand different crying gifs too. Then you’ve got exactly what I looked like the entire time during the last few chapters of this book as well.
I know I’m super late reading this one, and I’m definitely late reviewing it, but I’m still putting it out there. Even if I’m just shouting out all my feelings into the great void of the internet, I still need to get all of these feelings out of me at some point. And damn did this book give me lots of feels. Mainly hurt feels if I’m being honest.
Listen, I won’t get into spoilers here because I don’t wanna be that douche, but I get it. I get that someone had to die, since it’s the last book and ya know, we just have to hurt people’s hearts, but seriously? Did it have to be followed through with because I don’t think so, and I’d be real happy with an alternative ending being added, please and thank you.
Aside from my heart being shattered, this book was the perfect ending to an amazing start. I couldn’t put this thing down from the time I picked it up until I was finally done with it and I was clutching it as I sobbed. And that my friends, is how you know you read a good back.
So all and all, I totally recommend this to everyone and anyone who is looking for an amazing fantasy novel that will make you laugh, cry, wanna pull your hair out, and swoon. It’s definitely in my top five of all times favorite reads.
I hope everyone has a fantabulous day/evening/morning/whenever you’re reading this and happy reading!
