(Super late) May Wrap Up & TBR Rant

monthly wrap up

I’m honestly so shocked at how much reading I got done during the month of May! I took the picture below before the month was up, and apparently I forgot to actually add in several books that I read! I read The Shadow Queen and Captive Prince on my iPad, and I actually just forgot to put The Crown in by accident, but I really liked all of those. Well, actually, not so much Captive Prince, but I’ll get into that.

Quick Review Time

Here’s a quick look at the ratings I gave each of the books, including the ones I forgot to include in the picture (oops!):

Reviews Up This Month

Mini Review: Captive Prince

captive princeBook: Captive Prince

Author: S.U. Pacat

Summary: Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the truthful heir to the throne of Akielos, but when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.

Beautiful, manipulative and deadly, his new master Prince Laurent epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country.

For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else…

I didn’t actually do a review for Captive Prince, because I just didn’t feel like I had enough to say about it to write one. I was shocked by it, and I think we were meant to be, and I really just didn’t like it at all. I liked the plot that was under all of the sexual stuff, and I wish I was able to look past everything else to focus on it, but I just wasn’t able to. Of course, I wasn’t aware of how sexual that book got, because it was one of those books I just kind of jumped into and didn’t read any reviews about it, but I’m pretty sure that didn’t help my whole experience.

If I’m being honest, I’ll probably end up picking the next one up at some point in my life, just because I’m a super curious person, but I know it won’t be any time soon.

TBR Rant

I’ve decided, I’m not going to set a TBR for myself anymore. I like having a range of books I can choose from for the month, and if I’m being honest, I never really stick to my TBR like I should. I mean, does anyone?

I’ve noticed, that if I have a TBR set for the month, I’m more likely to not read the books on that list than I am to actually read them. I think that’s totally my personality coming through, because when I’m told not to do something, I have to. Likewise, if I’m told to do something, I can almost guarantee I won’t do it, and if I do do it it’ll be forever until I do. We’re talking last minute, aka procrastinating on everything. And reading is the last thing I want to feel pressure in and start to procrastinate, because it’s the thing I use to procrastinate on things like school, and writing reviews, and I’d like to keep it that way.

I hope everyone has a fantabulous day/evening/morning/whenever you’re reading this and happy reading!

  • CHEERS to super late wrap-ups!

Love your read list this month (mainly with ACOMAF because of EVERYTHING and I’m probably never going to get over Maas’ books. Ever.). And they all look like they rated pretty high – that’s awesome!

I feel you on the TBR. And being an emotional reader means my TBR pile changes every day. Kassandra suggested we just have “books we’re looking forward to” which means our TBR is basically down to one or two books that we can read in a few days and then read whatever we want afterwards. I think it’ll work out well.
