daughter of smoke and boneBook: Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1)

Author: Laini Taylor

Published: September 27, 2011

Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Summary: Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hairactually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Review: I’ve had this book for a really long time but I’d just never gotten around to actually starting it. I’ve got this problem of buying a book, getting really excited to read it, and then I get distracted by some other book. It’s started to happen a lot more lately because I’m getting more into the book blogging scene again, but that’s a whole other post.

So I finally decided to start this baby up, right before my mini blogging vacation, and immediately fell in love. Mostly with Akiva, but y’know, just details.

i love him so much

The characters, their development, and the world building was insane. It was all done so beautifully, I honestly still can’t believe how well this story was told. At times the world building was a bit overwhelming, simply because it would get to the point that it was over described, but for the most part it was just wonderful.

I know this is totally random, and I almost never post edits in my reviews, but Tumblr has some gorgeous edits for this book! I can’t help but post a few!

I’ve already started on the second book, I literally closed this book and picked the next up that very second, and it’s starting out pretty good. It’s a little slow, but so was this one in the beginning. I’m just hoping that when it picks up, it’s as good as the first! I’m so excited for this series period.

I hope everyone has a fantabulous day/evening/morning/whenever you’re reading and happy reading!
