Book: These Broken Stars (Starbound #1)
Author: Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Published: December 10, 2013
Genres: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Romance
Summary: It’s a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.
Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.
Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?
Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.
My Review: I honestly don’t even know what just happened. I literally just finished this 5 minutes ago and I’m still trying to process this.
I think I liked the ending? I think???
I honestly can’t tell. The entire book was a 4.5/5 but toward the ending it was a 3 to a 2.5.. The closer I got to the end, the more confused I got.
Lilac and Tarver were too cute, don’t get me wrong. They made me all warm and fuzzy when they had scenes of lovey doveyness. Not even gonna lie when they apparently had sex, they were describing the day after I think and I didn’t grasp the fact that they were talking about doing the sex until a few pages later. It just kinda clicked randomly.
Lets just talk about how sassy Lilac was gettin’ in the beginning. When she first turned Tarver down on the ship, no this isn’t really a spoiler, I was just like “damn lil mama”. The amount of sass she’s got going on.
The only thing I didn’t care for was how abrupt the ending was. It was just Lilac’s dad blowing stuff up and then they just fly away into space. I think they flew away.. Who knows.
I also didn’t like how trippy it was toward the ending. I honestly thought that Tarver had lost his shit. Dude was going cray cray.
Overall, very good book, and if you like the idea of a space version of Titanic, you should definitely pick this up!
I hope everyone has a fantabulous day/evening/morning/whenever you’re reading this and happy reading!
Rating: I want to give it 4.5 pumpkin cats, but I only have a 4, so yup yup.
