Genres: Young Adult, Science Fiction
Summary: Eli and his family have lived in the underground Compound for six years. The world they knew is gone, and they’ve become accustomed to their new life. Accustomed, but not happy.
For Eli, no amount of luxury can stifle the dull routine of living in the same place, with only his two sisters, his father and mother, doing the same thing day after day after day.
As problems with their carefully planned existence threaten to destroy their sanctuary—and their sanity—Eli can’t help but wonder if he’d rather take his chances outside.
Eli’s father built the Compound to keep them safe. But are they safe—or sorry?
My Review: My boyfriend has never been a big reader. That fact is probably why I was hesitant to pick this up. He wouldn’t stop talking about how amazing it was and how much I needed it. We were at Barnes & Noble and I was going on probably the biggest spending spree I’ve ever done there and I decided why not? It was on sale and it didn’t look all that bad. When I read the back, it just didn’t seem like a book I would like. They live in this compound underground, hence the name, and their father has set it up so that they could live there for the rest of their lives. Well, that plan falls through. Quickly. It just seemed boring and more like a dude book than what I’m used to reading. But, I did it for him.
It took a chapter, maybe two, before I really got into it. I read it because my boyfriend really wanted me to. And after thinking about it, he really doesn’t read all that much, so there must be something good about this book to get him to read it. And it was actually surprisingly good. I honestly couldn’t believe I liked a book he liked.. It was an exciting day.
I hate to admit it, but boy actually has some pretty good taste. At least for this book. I really really really liked it. Everyone needs it.
I know this is short, like really short. But there’s almost no way to review this too much without spoilers and I promised myself, at least until the end of 2014, that I wouldn’t write anymore spoiler reviews. Which is harder than I thought.
I hope everyone has a fantabulous day/evening/morning/whenever you’re reading this and happy reading!
